Yarmouth Tops Casino Panel List
Yarmouth is the leading contender in the race to host one of the eight large casinos set to open across Britain.
The Casino Advisory Panel came out with a ranking list where the Norfolk resort leads with 54 points, bumping out rivals such as Luton, Solihull, Canterbury, Southampton and Leeds. The news has confirmed the speculations that Yarmouth is one of the favorites in the casino race.
The large casino may be seen as a second prize compared to the much-coveted super casino license, however, Yarmouth's political and business leaders still see the opening of a large casino as a major tool for regeneration in the area.
"It's great news that we have finished top of the shortlist," Managing director of Yarmouth Pleasure Beach Albert Jones said.
"A large casino will still be a tremendous draw and an all-year-round attraction," he added.
Jones has confirmed that he has been in talks with two major casino operators. He also added that it is highly likely that a four-star hotel would also be added in the picture.
"This would fit in well with my other projects, including the bringing of a big wheel to the Pleasure Beach," Jones said.
"If a four-star hotel is in the plans, that would be great news as well. With the outer harbour coming, Yarmouth could do with a new high-quality hotel that would be attractive to the business market," Barry Stone, the borough council's deputy leader said.
